June 4, 2009
DENVER -- Aurora police said between 50 and 60 people were involved in a series of fights near Overland High School Thursday, leading to five arrests. School resource officers assigned to Overland High saw several groups of high-school-age people gathering near the school around 12:30 p.m., said Detective Shannon Youngquist Lucy of the Aurora Police Department. One group went to a 7-Eleven on South Peoria Street and started fighting outside the store. The officers broke up the fight as well as two others nearby, Lucy said. "Officers estimate that 50 to 60 people were involved in the disturbances, and a few hundred more gathered in the area to observe," Lucy said. Five people, including two Overland High students, were arrested, she said.
